The Worlds Hatred For Christians

image

John 15:18-21 NKJV
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. [19] If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. [20] Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. [21] But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.

Many Preachers teach that those who follow Jesus as Lord and Saviour, will have a life of peace and happiness. However, The Bible promises something entirely different.

2 Timothy 3:12 NKJV
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

Matthew 10:16, 22 NKJV
“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. [22] And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

These verses contridict the “God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life” promise of modern day evangelism.

Modern day evangelism is promising a life of roses without thorns. Jesus told His disciples He was sending them out among sharp thorns. Jesus says that your own family will betray you and will have you put to death for following Jesus Christ and for your faith in Him.

Matthew 10:21-22 NKJV
“Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. [22] And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

This is the life Jesus has promised believers, that we would be hated for His name’s sake and for us to look forward to being persecuted.

Philippians 1:29-30 NKJV
For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, [30] having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in his book, ( The Cost Of Discipleship ), says “Suffering and sacrifice are essential to the Christian life just as they were essential to Jesus life. When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.”

This doesn’t mean that we will always physically die. However, Jesus when He calls us, we are first and foremost to die to sin and to ourselves, leave your home, sell everything you own and give it to the poor, turn the other cheek, do not store up earthly treasures for yourselves, love your enemies,  bless those who curse you and dispitefully use you, take up your cross and follow me. Jesus does not call us to a life of comfort. Jesus calls us to patience, sacrifice and suffering for His sake and The Gospel.

Remember the words of Jesus,

John 15:18-25 NKJV
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. [19] If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. [20] Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. [21] But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. [22] If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. [23] He who hates Me hates My Father also. [24] If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father. [25] But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, ‘They hated Me without a cause.’
