Eternal Life or Eternal Punishment ?

It is interesting that a much higher percentage of people believe in the existence of heaven than believe in the existence of hell. However, according to the Bible, hell is just as real and eternal as heaven.

The Bible is clear and explicitly teaches that hell is a real place in which the lost, wicked, and unbelieving are cast into after the physical death.

In other words, if you are not saved when you die, if you have not been born again by the Spirit of God, and if your name is not written in The Lambs Book of Life, if you die in your sins, you will spend eternity in hell.

You do not have to go to hell if you are lost, because you too can be saved. Thank you Jesus.

We have all sinned against God and done evil in His sight.

Romans 3:23 KJV
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

The just punishment for that sin is death.

Romans 6:23 KJV
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Since all of our sin is ultimately against God.

Psalm 51:4-5 KJV
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. [5] Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

God is an infinite and eternal Being, God is Holy, Just, Righteous and Fair. Therefore, the punishment for sin is death, which is also infinite and eternal.

If you are lost without Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, hell will be this infinite and eternal death which you have earned because of your sin.

The punishment of the wicked dead in hell is described throughout Scripture as “eternal fire”.

Matthew 25:41 KJV
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Hell is an “unquenchable fire”.

Matthew 3:10-12 KJV
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. [11] I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: [12] Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Hell will be a place of “shame and everlasting contempt”.

Daniel 12:2 KJV
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Hell is a place where “the fire is not quenched”.

Mark 9:44-50 KJV
Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. [45] And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: [46] Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. [47] And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: [48] Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. [49] For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. [50] Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Hell is a place of “torment” and “fire”.

Luke 16:23-24 KJV
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. [24] And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Hell is a place of “everlasting destruction”.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 KJV
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, [8] In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: [9] Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

Hell is a place where “the smoke of torment rises forever and ever”.

Revelation 14:10-11 KJV
The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: [11] And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Hell is a place with a “lake of burning sulfur”, where the wicked are “tormented day and night forever and ever”.

Revelation 20:9-10 KJV
And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. [10] And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are , and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

The punishment of the wicked lost in hell, is as never ending as the bliss and Glory, of the righteous and saved in Heaven.

Jesus Himself indicates that punishment in hell is just as everlasting and eternal as life in heaven.

Matthew 25:46 KJV
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

The wicked are forever subject to the fury and the wrath of God. Those in hell will acknowledge the perfect justice of God.

Psalm 76:7-10 NKJV
You, Yourself, are to be feared; And who may stand in Your presence When once You are angry? [8] You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; The earth feared and was still, [9] When God arose to judgment, To deliver all the oppressed of the earth. Selah [10] Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; With the remainder of wrath You shall gird Yourself.

Those who are in hell will know that their punishment is just and that they alone are to blame for rejecting Jesus Christ, Gods Son and remedy from hell .

Deuteronomy 32:3-6 NKJV
For I proclaim the name of the LORD: Ascribe greatness to our God. [4] He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He. [5] “They have corrupted themselves; They are not His children, Because of their blemish: A perverse and crooked generation. [6] Do you thus deal with the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is He not your Father, who bought you? Has He not made you and established you?

Yes, hell is real. Yes, hell is a place of torment and punishment that lasts forever and ever, with no end. The Scriptures are very clear about it.

Praise God that, through Jesus, we can escape this eternal fate and flaming eternal fire, because God has provided the remedy for our sin, by the Sacrifice on The Cross, of His one and only Son, Jesus Christ our redeemer.

John 3:16-18, 35-36 NKJV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. [17] For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. [18] “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [35] The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. [36] He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Revelation 21:27 KJV
And there shall in no wise enter into it ( Heaven ) any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Revelation 20:12-15 KJV
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. [13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. [14] And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. [15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
