The Biblical Truths About Slander.

WHAT IS SLANDER ? – To use the tongue to defame, abuse, scandalize, belittle, or blacken the character of another person.

1. Because Of An evil heart.

Luke 6:45 NKJV
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

2. Because of Hatred.

Psalm 109:2-5 NKJV
For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful Have opened against me; They have spoken against me with a lying tongue. [3] They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And fought against me without a cause. [4] In return for my love they are my accusers, But I give myself to prayer. [5] Thus they have rewarded me evil for good, And hatred for my love.

3. Because Of Idleness.

1 Timothy 5:13 NKJV
And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.

1. Wicked People.

Psalm 50:16-20 NKJV
But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to declare My statutes, Or take My covenant in your mouth, [17] Seeing you hate instruction And cast My words behind you? [18] When you saw a thief, you consented with him, And have been a partaker with adulterers. [19] You give your mouth to evil, And your tongue frames deceit. [20] You sit and speak against your brother; You slander your own mother’s son.

2. People Who Are Hypocrites.

Proverbs 11:8-9 NKJV
The righteous is delivered from trouble, And it comes to the wicked instead. [9] The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.

3. People Who Are Under Satanic Powers And Control.

Revelation 12:9-10 NKJV
So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. [10] Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.

4. People Who Are Decievers.

Psalm 52:2-7 NKJV
Your tongue devises destruction, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. [3] You love evil more than good, Lying rather than speaking righteousness. Selah [4] You love all devouring words, You deceitful tongue. [5] God shall likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place, And uproot you from the land of the living. Selah [6] The righteous also shall see and fear, And shall laugh at him, saying, [7] “Here is the man who did not make God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness.”

5. Foolish People.

Proverbs 10:18-21 NKJV
Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, And whoever spreads slander is a fool. [19] In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. [20] The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little. [21] The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.

1. Slander Separates Friends.

Proverbs 16:27-28 NKJV
An ungodly man digs up evil, And it is on his lips like a burning fire. [28] A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends.

2. Slander Causes Deadly Wounds.

Proverbs 18:6-8 NKJV
A fool’s lips enter into contention, And his mouth calls for blows. [7] A fool’s mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul. [8] The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles, And they go down into the inmost body.

3. Slander Results In Strife.

Proverbs 26:19-21 NKJV
Is the man who deceives his neighbor, And says, “I was only joking!” [20] Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases. [21] As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindle strife.

4. Slander Results In Discord Among The Brethren.

Proverbs 6:16-19 NKJV
These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: [17] A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, [18] A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, [19] A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.

5. Slander Results In Anger.

Proverbs 25:23 NKJV
The north wind brings forth rain, And a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.

6. Slander Can Result In Murder.

Psalm 31:13 NKJV
For I hear the slander of many; Fear is on every side; While they take counsel together against me, They scheme to take away my life.

Psalm 101:3-8 NKJV
I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me. [4] A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know wickedness. [5] Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure. [6] My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, That they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, He shall serve me. [7] He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence. [8] Early I will destroy all the wicked of the land, That I may cut off all the evildoers from the city of the LORD.

Revelation 21:8 NKJV
But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Colossians 3:6-17 NASB
For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, [7] and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. [8] But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. [9] Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, [10] and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him- [11] a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. [12] So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; [13] bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. [14] Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. [15] Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. [16] Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. [17] Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

Ephesians 4:30-32 NASB
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. [31] Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. [32] Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Lord help us all I pray…In Jesus Name…Amen.
